The “Environmental Education Act” has been officially conducted on June, 2011, which is a milestone of sustainable development for the national environmental education. To effectively strengthen the public’s environmental knowledge, the environmental education should be more close to the public’s lives and be active to introduce to the public. The EPA (Environmental Protection Administration) has begun to massively collect environmental knowledge since 2010 and established E- School website (“The website” in the following contents indicating E-School website), applying vigorous methods, tests and games to make people be used to learning environmental knowledge.
To promote the website to become a more multiple environmental education platform, the project has specially set four main goals, including strengthening and maintaining functions on the website, expanding environmental knowledge question banks, establishing “Environmental Topic Quiz” as the system function, and organizing promotion activities of the website, in the hope of that more enriched environmental knowledge learning methods can be offered to users for fostering the habit of learning environmental knowledge.
To trigger the public’s interest to learn and correspond to different kinds of users’ requirements, two main functions, Little Quiz and Knowledge Exam, have been updated and “Environmental Topic Quiz” has begun, providing 10 major environmental topic articles and questions that users can answer after reading the topics. Moreover, to ensure the quality of topic contents, the project has invited high school teachers to distribute articles of topics, and review conferences have been held that every article has been reviewed by five experts or scholars.
The project, to enhance the quality of question banks and enrich the questions on the website, has held 14 review conferences, each of which has three experts or scholars doing the review, deleting 115 questions, which are too similar or incorrect, and correcting and remaining 2,792 questions. Additionally, there are 2,048 questions being added this year, which are completed by 26 experts or scholars invited, and each new question is reviewed by three experts or scholars.
Starting from this year, to promote the website, the project has specially organized an online planting activity, “Environmental Knowledge ONLINE,” promoting public environmental education. The activity, focusing on “Learning Environmental Education by Games, E-Planting to Love the Planet,” has kicked off after the press conference of “Environmental Knowledge ONLINE” held at Lao Song Elementary School on April 25. On September 30, the activity has completed and joined by 55,350 participants in 5 months. Also, on December 14, an award ceremony of the activity has been held at Chihlee Institute of Technology, inviting EPA Minister, Shen Stephen Shu-hung, as the award presenter to present certificates of awards, rewards and trophies.
